The UF MAE Capstone Design class has been tasked this semester by the consortium founding UF’s Biofoundry to design a semiautonomous microbioreactor that can interrogate cellular properties in larger volumes than those commercially available, at high throughput, while coupled with a liquid handling capacity. The desired device must use zero human intervention to produce and monitor substantial amounts of a microbial (i.e., either bacterial or yeast) culture. Also, the finalized device will be deployed in individual faculty research labs across campus. Further detail on the design expectations and 35 required design metrics can be found in the Spring 2021 EML4501 Customer Needs Statement.
