Abstract
The acronym N.E.R.T., which stands for Neuromuscular Elliptical Rehabilitation Trainer, describes our machine’s purpose. It is a device capable of lifting and providing constant supportive force to a patient on an elliptical machine throughout the vertical translation on the elliptical. The machine is fully adjustable thanks to a telescopic bar installed in its vertical part and has a totally autonomous operation to lift the patient from their wheelchair. The machine is easy to transport with the help of another person. Carefully designed to support the different weights to which it will adjust by means of a winch located at the rear. The materials chosen have followed an order of preference to comply with safety limits and in order of price, using Ashby plots. The motor has a 400-pound lifting capacity and is guided by a PID controller, for greater stability when operating the device and lifting and lowering the person.
